Transfer speculation: Harry Kane 6/1 to join Pochettino at Chelsea

As days in Tottenham Hotspur‘s Premier League history go, Sunday 23 April 2023 will go down as a dark one.

After Newcastle United inflicted one of Spurs’ heaviest losses in a 6-1 hammering at St. James’ Park, further misery has been heaped on the Lilywhites after a difficult season.

Having seen their north London neighbours fight for the title, the era of Antonio Conte has come and almost as quickly gone, with hopes of Champions League football heading in the same direction.

Now, with just top-tier European competition having kept him at the club previously, talisman Harry Kane may have a difficult decision to make.

After pledging his future to the club repeatedly, his loyalty will again be tested this summer.

Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy has stated this week that Kane is not for sale ‘at any price’ and any move will require Kane to submit a transfer request.

Still around 1/2 to stay with Tottenham then, if Kane does ask to finally leave the Tottenham nest, where might his next destination be?

    Old Trafford bound?

If Kane does spread his wings, the most likely switch for the time being is at a 6/4 shot with BetVictor to make the move to Old Trafford for next term.

For United, having papered over the cracks at number nine for some time now, Kane would effortlessly fill the void.

Though Marcus Rashford has proved he can play the lone forward role, Rashford’s natural strength is as a support striker.

Going forward – literally – with Jadon Sancho on the wing, the three could eventually form a formidable English front line for Erik ten Hag.

It currently looks still some way off, but seeing Kane turn out for the Red Devils would make a lot of sense.

    Pochettino lure remains for Kane

    How about a longer shot?

Chelsea might appear a stretch right now, but with Mauricio Pochettino close to being unveiled as The Blues’ new permanent boss, could Kane and Poch yet be reunited?

Though the west London side will also be without the lure of Champions League football, his former manager might yet be a big pawn in Kane’s decision.

It was Pochettino who brought persevered with Kane and turned him into one of the finest strikers around; there would be no issues in picking up where they left off.

Chelsea, for all their money spent in the transfer market have – rather inexplicably – still failed to add a centre-forward.

That will change under the Argentine.

Though Romelu Lukaku could be set to make yet another return Stamford Bridge in the post-season, Kane making what would be a hugely controversial move south across the capital isn’t so improbable.

For that to materialise is short as 6/1, but is on for more than double that at 20s with BetUK.

    Bavarian alternative

Perhaps though, a fresh start on the continent is what Kane is after – it would certainly avoid any awkward moves to a rival club.

Linked for some time now with Bayern Munich, the Bavarians have not looked the same this term without the services of Robert Lewandowski.

Though Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting has ably filled the Pole’s boots for a time, Bayern are in need of a permanent number nine.

Kane, of all the front men around in Europe’s top leagues can make a strong case to being the perfect replacement for Lewandowski; an out-and-out, lethal target-man.

The main stumbling block here however, will be Kane’s pursuit of Alan Shearer‘s all-time Premier League goalscoring record.

Fresh from becoming Tottenham’s all-time record league scorer, Kane currently sits at 207 goals, just 53 behind Shearer.

It may only require two more full seasons for Kane to break that tally, but staying in England will, of course, be needed.

Nevertheless, if punters can see the England skipper seeking pastures new, PariMatch are offering 8/1 odds for Kane to be at ANY German club next season.

If matters in the boardroom at Spurs become somewhat ugly, this option for Levy would be wholly more palatable and as such, this outcome cannot be sniffed at.

  • Football legends who hated training

    Football legends who hated training

It is a widespread opinion that footballers need to be at their best physical condition at all times, especially during the peak of their career. Due to this, you will see almost every footballer at top clubs taking immense care of their body and spending as much time in training as they can in order to improve their physical condition. However, there are some ultimate football legends who hated training, but they were great despite not doing it enough. BestofBets brings you 10 such great players!

10 football legends who hated training

    10. Mesut Ozil:
Our countdown begins with a modern day midfielder, World Cup winner Mesut Ozil. Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger once said in an interview in 2016 that Ozil despised training and “didn’t practice enough.”
Well, despite Wenger’s comments, Ozil almost never failed to mesmerise fans with his ability and creativity on the ball.

    9. Matt Le Tissier:
The ‘God’ of Southampton, Matt Le Tissier was a revelation when he burst on to the scene in English football and while he did succeed at club level, scoring over 160 goals for The Saints, the reason he could make just eight appearances for the England national team was the coaches at the time didn’t feel he trained enough to make the cut!

    8. Michael Owen:
While Liverpool legend Michael Owen didn’t showcase any specific training hatred in his career at other clubs, there did come a time during his stint at Stoke City when he absolutely despised training for then manager Tony Pulis.
Speaking on his time at Stoke City, Owen said, “Every day is the same…11 v 11 – constantly, for like an hour. I hated training. That finished me off, that place.”

    7. Socrates:
One of the greatest footballers in history, Brazilian legend Socrates was one of the most revolutionary players in the national team, a team that was favourite to win the 1982 World Cup, but didn’t!
Socrates had many other things he wanted to do in life that got in the way of him achieving immortal status in football, one was his hobby to study medicine and he earned a degree in the same while playing professionally.
The biographer of Brazil’s captain for the 1982 edition claimed that Socrates loved to study and hated to train and viewed football as merely a hobby!

    6. Gary Lineker:
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp once said, “It is amusing to see Gary looking so fit now because during his peak years as a player his aversion to practice sessions was famous throughout football. He was a terrible trainer. He just liked to come in on Saturday and play.”
It is said that Lineker didn’t take any shots on goal in his pre-match warm-up as he “didn’t want to waste any goals.”

    5. Romario:
Another extra-ordinary talent from Brazil, Romario was known to skip training sessions on many occasions at every club he played for in his career.
Once, on being asked about his son Romarinho aiming for a career in football and how it will affect him being in his father’s shadow, Romario went on record to cheekily state, “I’ll go to his matches. But I don’t think I’ll go to his training sessions. I mean, I didn’t even go to my own.

    4. Ronaldo Nazario:
El Fenomeno, Ronaldo Nazario is one of the greatest strikers of all time and was part of an incredible Brazil team in the late 90s and early 2000s that won two World Cups, in 1994 and 2002.
On the pitch, Ronaldo showcased magical skill and technique that left the world shocked in awe, but on the training ground, he was last at every single drill!

    3. Ronaldinho:
Fourth Brazilian in this incredible list, Ronaldinho was a sight to behold when he was in full flow. It’s almost as if he could conquer the world with the ball at his feet, and he did, he conquered millions of football fans’ hearts who learnt it’s not just about winning and glory, but also about enjoying every single moment with a smile on your face and with the ball at your feet!
But, even a legend like him hated training.
His teammate from his time at PSG, Jerome Leroy once said, “Ronaldinho didn’t train any day of the week but just turned up on Friday ready to play on the Saturday. He’d get changed and he’d go straight to the massage bed to sleep.”

    2. George Best:
Footballing icon and one of Manchester United’s greatest legends, George Best had quite an incredible life on and off the pitch!
The Northern Irish legend lived two completely different lives, he was a footballer on the field and lived like a complete rockstar off it!
In January 1972, Best missed a full week’s training at Manchester United to spend time with the winner of Miss Great Britain that year.

    1. Wayne Rooney:
While still being a teenager in the mid 2000s, Wayne Rooney was already being touted to be the best footballer in the world and was at that time, rated higher than his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Well, Ronaldo since then moved to newer heights as one of the greatest footballers in history, something Rooney could have also achieved if he took care of his body and didn’t hate training as much as he did.
“Wayne didn’t see the importance of the gym really. He’d say, ‘I am here to play football’. I always wish I could have pushed Wayne that bit further.” said former Manchester United fitness coach Mick Clegg in 2013.

Three Premier League fixtures to bet on this weekend

After Liverpool’s 7-0 victory over Manchester United and a dramatic win for Arsenal in the title race last weekend, BestOfBets previews this weekend’s action and looks at three games worthy of your attention…

Leicester vs Chelsea, Saturday 11th March @ 3pm

Has the pressure finally lifted from Graham Potter’s shoulders? A morale-boosting Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund was just the tonic for struggling Chelsea in midweek, after they finally notched three points in the Premier League last weekend against Leeds. They’re on the up.

Now Potter’s men head to the King Power Stadium to face a Leicester side who are certainly looking vulnerable. Can Kai Havertz start to become the consistent goalscorer Chelsea need up top? Can Raheem Sterling put together a run of form and fitness for the Stamford Bridge outfit?

They’re decent odds at Evens for the victory at Leicester, with the Foxes 14/5 and the draw 13/5.

    Our tip: Chelsea win (Evens)

Crystal Palace vs Man City, Saturday 11th March @ 5.30pm

If there’s one team who can put another spanner in the works of Manchester City’s title charge, you feel it can be Crystal Palace.

Patrick Vieira’s side aren’t in scintillating form right now, but under the Saturday night lights at Selhurst Park, sitting deep and frustrating Man City, you feel they have a real chance of a result this weekend. City have only won five of their past 10 meetings with Palace since New Year’s Eve 2017. The Eagles have been a constant thorn in Pep Guardiola’s side and there’s no reason why they can’t sting them again.

The bookies are fairly confident of a City win at 2/5. And 8/1 is long odds, even for Vieira’s inconsistent side. But the draw at 4/1 is an appealing flutter if you want to back an underdog in this week’s Premier League schedule.

    Our tip: Draw (4/1)

Manchester United vs Southampton, Sunday 12th March @ 2pm

Manchester United sent the perfect message to their post-Anfield critics with a 4-1 demoltion of Real Betis on Thursday night. But to truly shake off the demons of last week’s 7-0 defeat to Liverpool, they must get back to winning ways in the Premier League as well. A home game against a relegation-threatened Southampton seems like the perfect opportunity.

Saints have been slightly improved under the stewardship of Ruben Selles, with crucial 1-0 wins over Chelsea and Southampton of late, but they might just come up against a United team with something to prove. Just ask Bruno Fernandes.

The bookies clearly think Erik ten Hag’s men will bounce back, with United 1/3 to grab the three points on Sunday. Southampton are 8/1 and the draw is 4/1, but the money might be on United to win to nil, given Saints aren’t exactly prolific in front of goal.

Our tip: United to win to nil (13/10)

Bayern Munich 2-0 PSG – Player ratings as Choupo-Moting leads the Bavarians to Champions League last-8

Chelsea 2-0 Borussia Dortmund – Player ratings as the Blues claim Champions League quarter-final berth

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz meant that Chelsea have ensured their passage to the Champions League quarter-final with a 2-1 aggregate win against Borussia Dortmund after a 1-0 loss in the first leg.

The game started after a 10 minute delay and Chelsea were presented with chances right from kick off with Sterling missing a sitter, although the flag went up for offside and spared his blushes.

Dortmund eventually got into the game and tested Kepa to some extent. Chelsea then took the lead just before half-time. Chilwell crossed the ball to Sterling, who completely mis-hit his first effort, but regained his composure and blasted the ball through a crowd of players to tie things up on aggregate at the break.

The second half started at a fast pace before Chilwell’s cross struck Marius Wolf and Chelsea were awarded a penalty. Kai Havertz missed the penalty but it was observed that an encroachment was made into the penalty box before the kick, leading to the Blues getting another chance to take the penalty, which Havertz converted.

Dortmund tried to make a comeback but Chelsea dealt with all of their attacks to hand Graham Potter his biggest win yet as a Chelsea manager.

  • Chelsea vs Leeds preview, probable lineups, players you can bet on and prediction

Chelsea vs Leeds preview, probable lineups, players you can bet on and prediction

Strugglers Chelsea will be looking to begin their comeback to winning ways when they host Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Blues are winless in their last five games and a loss here could lead to Graham Potter being sacked from his job.

Here’s our preview of this clash!

    Match Details:

    Location: London, England

    Stadium: Stamford Bridge

    Date: Saturday, 4 March

    Kick-off Time: 15:00 GMT / 10:00 ET / 07:00 PT

    Referee: Michael Oliver

    VAR: Darren England

    Team News:

Chelsea will be without their talisman Thiago Silva as the Brazilian is expected to be out of action for six weeks due to a knee injury he picked up against Tottenham, meaning Cesar Azpilicueta will lead the Blues. N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic are both back in training and could be on the bench for this one. Broja and Mendy remain out injured.

For Leeds, young midfielder Archie Gray has had a decent impact, but will be on the bench for this one. Stuart Dallas, Rodrigo and Adam Forshaw all remain out injured. Strujik and Sinisterra could be added last minute, however this has not been confirmed.

Head to Head record in last five games:

    Chelsea wins: 3

    Leeds win: 1

    Draws: 1

    Predicted Lineups:

Chelsea – Kepa; Azpilicueta, Koulibaly, Badiashile; James, Fernandez, Zakaria, Chilwell; Felix, Sterling; Havertz.

Leeds – Meslier; Ayling, Koch, Wober, Firpo; Adams, McKennie; Harrison, Aaronson, Gnonto; Bamford.

Last 5 games in all competitions:

    Chelsea – D D L L L

    Leeds – D L L W L

    Prediction:

Things could really turn ugly for Chelsea and their manager Graham Potter should Leeds United come with a result from the Bridge. The chances of that happening are not impossible as Leeds have shown they can score goals with the pace of Gnonto.

BestofBets think this one will be a 1-1 draw.

Players who you can bet on for a great performance:

    Raheem Sterling:

Chelsea desperately need Raheem Sterling to start firing if they are to make any kind of return to form starting with this game against Leeds. On his day, Sterling could be virtually unplayable, but such days haven’t yet come in his stint at Chelsea. We think the pace of this game could suit Sterling to create a major impact over a crucial 90 minutes that could save Graham Potter’s job.

    Illan Meslier:

There is no doubt Illan Meslier is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment. The Frenchman has been one of the biggest reasons why Leeds are not in the relegation zone at the moment. Against Chelsea, Meslier’s team will depend on him to keep out the threat possessed by Chelsea.

    Wilfried Gnonto:

If there is one player who has been the shining light in Leeds United’s season, it is Wilfried Gnonto. The pacy winger has been in the form of his life and is sure to disrupt a Chelsea defence that is weak on confidence and self-belief. Expect him to get a goal or an assist in this game regardless of the result.

Kal Naismith, Kane Wilson and Tommy Conway too will miss this clash, whereas Harry Cornick and Anis Mehmeti are both cup-tied.

Bristol City vs Manchester City Prediction

There is no doubt Manchester City are miles ahead against Bristol on paper in terms of the squad Pep Guardiola has at his disposal. However, fielding a totally new XI compared to the last game could see City struggle to settle in the early parts of the game.

But, there is no doubt the Cityzens will claim the win. We predict a 3-1 win for Manchester City.
