Gamers8 2023: Everything You Need To Know

With the recent influx of funding from Saudi Arabia, Esports’ prize pool, interest, and viewership are on the rise once again – especially with the introduction of Gamers8. During the Lockdown of 2020, Esports went through a period of massive growth as few other sports were able to compete with the nature of how Esports is played.

Now that we are back to normal living, sponsors are unhappy with the decrease in viewership we are now seeing, with some stating that “Esports is dead”. However, this is not the case.

Although Esports viewership has declined since 2020, we are now seeing large investors backing the industry at a crucial time for the sport. ESL, the largest Esports production company, has received massive investment from Saudi Arabia – and the same can be said for the new Gamers8 tournament hosted in Riyadh.

But how successful was Gamers8 2023, and what can we expect from the future of the tournament? Here’s all you need to know…

    Gamers8 2023 Viewership

    Gamers8 2023

This year, Gamers8 hosted over 10 huge Esports titles including Rocket League, CS:GO, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Fortnite. Unfortunately, some titles performed much better than others on streaming platforms. It’s unclear why this may be, but the current assumptions are around the prize pool, teams, and the games themselves.

    Gamers8 CS:GO 2023

The Gamers8 CS:GO tournament ran from 16-20 August and featured a prize pool of $1,000,000. Saudi Esports Federation partnered with ESL to invite 16 top Esports teams including ENCE and Team Vitality. As this is one of the last CS:GO tournaments (with the release of Counter-Strike 2 around the corner) there was a lot of hype around the tournament and the atmosphere was electrifying in the stadium. Unfortunately, the viewership didn’t meet expectations with 429,000 peak viewers. This doesn’t come close to the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 which was hosted a few months before Gamers8.

    Gamers8 2023 Rainbow Six: Siege

The Rainbow Six tournament featured 8 teams including Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP), Team BDS, and G2 Esports. The prize pool for this tournament was double that of CS:GO sitting at $2,000,000. With so much on the line, you may expect a much higher viewership, however, that is not the case. The tournament only hit 33,900 peak viewers which is far less than the Six Invitational which hit 232,000 viewers in 2023.

Perhaps this prize pool will help promote Siege in the future and push its viewership closer to that of Counter-Strike.

    Dota 2 Riyadh Masters 2023

The Ryadh Masters is a Dota 2 event produced by the Saudi Esports Federation and features the largest prize pool of any Esports tournament in history. At a whopping $15,000,000 it’s easy to believe that the tournament reached 588,000 peak viewers, the most of any Dota 2 tournament in 2023.

    Other Tournaments

On top of CS:GO, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Dota 2, Gamers8 also hosted other tournaments, these can be seen below along with their prize pool and peak viewers:

    • Gamers8 Fortnite 2023 – Prize Pool: $2,000,000 – Peak Viewers: 105,000
    • Gamers8 Tekken 7 2023 – Prize Pool: $1,000,000 – Peak Viewers: 44,000
    • PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2023 – Prize Pool: $3,000,000 – Peak Viewers: 517,000
    • Gamers8 Rennsport 2023 – Prize Pool: $1,000,000 – Peak Viewers: 14,000
    • Gamers 8 StarCraft 2 2023 – $500,000 – Peak Viewers: 54,300
    • Gamers8 Rocket League 2023 – $2,000,000 – Peak Viewers: 83,819

    The Future of Gamers8

Gamers8 will return in 2024. For now, the players can focus on other major tournaments that take place throughout the year for their respective games.

It’s clear to see that the biggest attraction of the event is the massive prize pools. It’s currently unclear as to whether these will stay for next year’s Gamers8 event, however, it feels as if they have set their expectations high and plan to meet expectations.

This injection of funding into the industry has managed to breathe new life into Esports. Although Gamers8 is a new event, it has managed to rejuvenate the passion for the sport – for both the players and the fans.

Formula 1 | Albon Thriving In Williams Team Leader Role

Williams’ Alex Albon, fresh from a stellar performance in Zandvoort, delivered a second consecutive points finish with P7 in Sunday’s Italian GP.

The Anglo-Thai driver as been a standout performer throughout 2023.

Often, he has utilised his car’s low drag design to deliver deliver valuable points for the team.

Albon has been able to frequently showcase the talent that earned him a mid-season promotion to Red Bull back in 2020, when many felt he was unfairly relieved of his drive a season later.

Now, he appears to be thriving in a settled underdog role with Williams, a team in the process of re-building under former Mercedes’ strategist James Vowles’ leadership.

Let’s look at Albon’s performances so far and assess his prospects heading into the final eight rounds of the season.

    A natural team leader

Fresh from a year as Red Bull’s reserve driver, Albon has adopted a natural leadership role within the Williams setup alongside rookie Logan Sargeant.

With the security of a multi-year contract announced over the summer break, a new confidence in the driver both on and off track is now present.

Although Williams have progressed from their position of last in the standings, the car is not yet a regular points scoring package.

However, Albon has maximised the car’s straight-line speed advantage to finish inside the top 10 in Monza and on four other occasions this season.

Although the team expected progress, they perhaps did not expect such a points tally with over a third of the season still remaining.

Both Albon and his team understand their car’s strengths and have maximised them where circumstances have allowed.

Often, they have opted for an early pit stop in a Grand Prix. In doing so, they have secured track position facing rivals with with the challenge of overtaking the low-drag Williams.

With a clear understanding between team and driver, Albon is now finding the form that earned him early career praise.

Williams will hope he can build on consecutive points finishes as they target seventh in the constructor’s championship.

    Opportunities remaining in 2023

Albon leaves the European portion of the season looking ahead to the remaining circuits that have potential to suit the Williams car.

The inaugural Las Vegas GP in November will host the penultimate race of the year.

Initial circuit map images indicate the track will suit low downforce, boasting a straight stretching over one kilometre in distance.

Then as the season concludes once again in Abu Dhabi, the venue introduced a new circuit layout in 2021 which aided overtaking with redesigned corners.

Williams could be in business at Yas Marina.

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton proved overtaking has been aided by the changes during their controversial title showdown that year.

Before both stops however, Sau Paulo and Texas also offer long stretches of flat out asphalt, both of which will benefit teams whose cars can deliver high top-end speeds.

The stakes for Williams and Albon

    Embed from Getty Images

Williams and Albon in particular can thrive in the season’s final races.

For midfield teams, constructor’s positions are often valued higher than those at the front of the grid.

Direct correlation to next year’s spending budget and testing time mean there is an opportunity to make large performance gains to move up the grid for next term.

Albon will be keen to continue accumulating top 10 finishes. Should the former Red Bull driver continue on his current trajectory, he will be on course to achieve the highest finish by a Williams driver since 2016.

  • London Royal Ravens Move to Carolina

London Royal Ravens Move to Carolina

The Call of Duty League is one of the biggest franchised leagues in the industry. With 12 teams competing for the title, fans watch eagerly each year to see who will come out on top. Many large Esports organisations have a team competing in this franchised league. For example, 100Thieves compete under “LA Thieves”, OpTic Gaming is “Texas Optic” and FaZe Clan‘s team is called “Atlanta Faze”. Today we are here to talk about London Royal Ravens.

The only team that competes outside the US is the London Royal Ravens. However, that is about to change. A recent tweet from X.com user Jacob Hale shows a trademark that may show a move to the US for the Royal Ravens team.

RELATED: Esports Team Profile: Team Vitality

    Carolina Royal Ravens

The image below shows the possible trademark deal to move the London team over to the USA with a base in Carolina. The trademark was filed on August 28, 2023, meaning we may see some official news release very soon.

We can also see from the image that the trademark is now “LIVE” meaning the name is official. With the release of Modern Warfare 3 right around the corner, now would be a great time for the team to re-establish themselves in the Call of Duty League.

It’s likely that fans from the UK will continue to support the Royal Ravens team. This is due to their brand identity being attached to the city of London. The move across the pond could give them more support from the American audience allowing for further growth and better facilities for the team.

    Roster and Team Changes

As of now, it is unclear whether there will be any roster or team changes within the Royal Ravens organisation. We can only hope that the players do not lose out on this deal and can continue playing under the Royal Ravens banner.

Unfortunately, the team performed poorly this year and only made it to round 2 twice in Major tournaments. Perhaps this move will be a fresh start for the current roster, or worse, a complete overhaul with new players joining the team to pick up this year’s lackluster performance.

Only time will tell, but we’ll keep you posted for more updates in the next few weeks.

    New London Team?

Many fans of the CDL in London and the UK will be disappointed with this news. This move may indicate a USA-only franchised league, similar to the NBA or NFL. However, there may be an opportunity for a new organisation to join the league with a brand new London team.

The community is suggesting a few organisations that could be a good pick for a London-based team. Guild Esports was the first Esports team to be publicly traded in the UK. Although they don’t have an official Call of Duty team right now, this could be a great time to expand on their current rosters.

Another option comes from Quadrant, backed by F1 driver Lando Norris. Although this is a small organisation right now, they are growing rapidly and a move into the CDL would be a huge move for the organisation.

A more likely proposal could come from Fnatic, another UK-based Esports team that is more well-known globally in the industry.

Formula 1 | Verstappen Edges Toward Title At Monza

World Drivers Championship leader Max Verstappen continued his surge towards a third title in last Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix.

Picking up a ninth consecutive victory, the Dutchman equaled a record set by former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel in 2013.

However, unlike some of his drives this season, it was not plain sailing in Zandvoort, as Verstappen now closes on the crown at Monza.

    Downpour chaos

Last weekend, a rain deluge on Lap 1 caused chaos with the grid all running on dry tyres.

During the average F1 season, it is rare that a circuit becomes soaked as quickly as Zandvoort did last Sunday afternoon.

As the lights went out, the heavens opened.

By half way around the opener, it was clear wet tyres would be required as the drivers scrambled to the pits.

Related: Red Bull threaten season sweep

This handed the advantage to Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez. He would lead the early stages with more rain, safety cars and red flags all proving obstacles for the reigning champion.

Perez and Pierre Gasly were among the drivers that reaped the rewards from pitting instantly, while those that stayed out ultimately lost time.

    Embed from Getty Images

Verstappen, who elected to stay out for an extra lap, dropped towards the lower end of the points positions. Worse off, Mercedes’ pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell found themselves bringing up the rear. Hamilton, at one stage, was in 20th and last place.

The eventual drying track allowed drivers that were caught out by the rain to make amends.

Verstappen was able to close in and undercut Perez for the lead while Hamilton would recover to sixth courtesy of some brave overtakes.

If there is a threat of rain for this weekend’s Italian GP, expect Verstappen’s advantage over the field to be greater still.

Ultimately, the pace of Verstappen and the Red Bull was again no match for the field last weekend, however, there were several outstanding performances across the grid.

Could form spill over into Monza?

    Midfield chances

The changeable conditions presented rare chances for midfield teams to claim a haul of points in last time out.

It was Gasly who capitalised on the ground made by his early pit stop to deliver a first podium since 2021.

Alpine will be encouraged that even in the dry conditions, the Frenchman was able to catch and pass Carlos Sainz’ Ferrari to eventually benefit from Perez’ own time penalty –  claiming third place.

The upturn in pace comes at a perfect time for the Enstone-based team. Monza was the scene of Gasly’s maiden and only F1 win to date. Alpine will be looking to continue their momentum at a circuit their driver holds fond memories of.

    Embed from Getty Images

Williams’ Alex Albon, meanwhile, continued his fine season with eighth place in the Netherlands.

Initially electing to stay out with dry tyres on a wet track, Albon would ultimately save himself a whole pit stop. He managed the dry tyres on a wet track brilliantly to ensure he had enough grip left when the conditions improved.

WIlliams are another outfit looking forward to the Italian GP and their car has consistently shown excellent top speed levels due to their low-drag design.

Expect Albon to qualify well on the Temple of Speed’s infamous straights and be difficult to overtake on race day.

    McLaren and Mercedes falter

Rivals for second place in the constructors standings, McLaren and Mercedes, both had sub-par races in Zandvoort.

Poor strategy calls saw the duo elect to stay out on dry tyres in a hope that the rain would pass.

However, this saw both Lando Norris and Russell drop from second and third respectively to outside the points completely.

    Embed from Getty Images

The pair would eventually come together in the race’s closing stages as a resulting puncture for Russell saw the Briton fail to finish for the third time this season.

Hamilton, last at one stage, managed to battle back to a sixth place finish with Norris seventh and Oscar Piastri ninth.

Although both teams will be keen to bounce back, Monza may not be the most likely of races to deliver a strong showing.

Italy could be a defining stop on this season’s calendar.

  • F1 Champions Threaten To Take Clean Sweep In 2023

F1 Champions Threaten To Take Clean Sweep In 2023

SF1 champions Red Bull Racing have so far dominated the 2023 season. It has has seen their rivals scrambling for answers from race to race in an attempt to close the gap.

The year has not been short of unpredictable outcomes and entertaining storylines. However, predicting the race winning team has so far not proven to be a difficult task.

Where many expected the field to condense, Red Bull have taken a huge step forward in performance.

As a result, they now find themselves in a position to complete a season clean sweep, an accolade that is yet to be claimed in the sport’s history.

Here, we discuss the likelihood of the team being able to claim the season’s remaining race victories.

The size of Red Bull’s pace advantage

    Embed from Getty Images

The pace advantage of the RB19 has been evident by some of the winning margins achieved so far in their 12 victories.

In particular, Max Verstappen has been able to consistently take the flag with a lead in excess of 20 seconds to the nearest competitor.

There had been rumours of potential stumbling blocks throughout the season which could pose a threat to their perfect year – one being the Monaco Grand Prix.

However, with this event navigated despite mid race rain and a challenge from Fernando Alonso, the target appears to becoming more and more realistic with every weekend.

Verstappen eventually claimed victory by 27 seconds on the shortest and highest risk circuit of the year. This achievement truly underlined the car’s peak levels of performance.

With Max in seamless form, he only adds to argument that Red Bull could stop their rivals from taking the chequered flag at any race this season.

    The Potential Threats

    Embed from Getty Images

As ever in Formula 1, there are no foregone conclusions. Reliability, driver mistakes, weather and strategic errors can quickly put pain to an excellent result.

Red Bull have been near flawless in terms of their car’s reliability. However, the team must still navigate the longest season to date which has the potential to put strain on the engine and gearbox.

Related: Relentless Verstappen Bent on Season Dominance

This is something very much beyond the control of the team, as a failure can occur at any time, putting an end to a magnificent run.

This season has also thrown up many surprises in terms of weather, with rain affecting a number of Grand Prix’s so far.

The drivers and team will need to ensure they stay vigilant should such a scenario arise. A lapse in concentration is often more costly in wet conditions.

    The chasing pack’s challenge

    Embed from Getty Images

Throughout the first half of the season, Red Bull have been completely out of reach on pure pace.

Fernando Alonso initially threatened to challenge at the front. From Monaco onwards, this challenge has faltered, along with the pace of the Aston Martin.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are the only non-Red Bull drivers to manage a pole position this season. Despite this, the pair  lacked the pace to maintain the lead on race day.

Last season, Mercedes did manage to claim a victory in the latter stages of the season. They were able to capitalise on their rivals changing their development focus to the following season’s car.

Related: F1: Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton keen to continue season momentum.

This may present an opportunity for Red Bull’s rivals to steal a victory in the twilight of the F1 season. A new venue in Las Vegas is an unknown for all of the teams. It could pose a threat to the perfect record. .

There is no doubting that the team’s motivation to achieve this will be high. They will therefore be difficult to stop on pure pace alone and may only be halted by external factors.

Team Vitality, founded in 2013, is currently one of the top teams across the board in Esports. With a huge win at the BLAST.tv Paris Major earlier this year, the CS:GO roster is establishing itself as the team to beat.

The organization has been dominating a few other titles over the years, particularly in Rocket League with Zen winning the MVP award at the last 3 Major events. But what does the future hold for the French competitors? Here’s everything you need to know about Team Vitality.

    Development

Over the years, Team Vitality has developed into an absolute powerhouse within the Esports industry. Although Vitality was born in 2013, it took 5 years for them to start competing in the competitive CS:GO space. Their first big win came in 2018  at the DreamHack Open Atlanta 2018 where they won 2-0 against a strong Luminosity roster.

Since then, Vitality has become a household name in the CS:GO space with multiple 1st place finishes at S-Tier tournaments and events. In 2023 alone, the team has won two major tournaments with the BLAST.tv Paris Major and the Gamers8 tournament in Riyadh where they beat out ENCE in a close 2-1 series.

Not only does Vitality dominate in the CS:GO space, but they have also been dominating the Rocket League Championship Series since 2019. In 9 RLCS events since 2019, Vitality has won 6 and placed 2nd in the other 3 narrowly losing out to Reciprocity, NRG, and Dignitas respectively.

This winning mentality is at the heart of Vitality’s organization and culture. They are willing to bring on new talent to upgrade and improve their rosters, whilst continuing to develop talent. Alexis “Zen” Bernier is a notable mention here as a new addition to the Rocket League roster in October of 2022.

So… what can we expect from Team Vitality as we move later into 2023 and 2024? Later this year (October 2023) we have the IEM Sydney Major. This will be the first time the event has run in 4 years and it’s safe to say the hype is building. The OCE fanbase for CS:GO is known for its crazy moments and crowd reactions, making for an extremely entertaining event. We can’t wait to see Vitality competing once again alongside the top teams such as ENCE, G2, NAVI, Fnatic, and many more.

It’s likely we will see Team Vitality continue to dominate in other games with the RLCS World Championships just finishing earlier this month. If you’re new to Esports, Vitality is a great team to watch and support as they continue their era of dominance across the industry.

Top 10 Esports Teams in 2023

Although there are thousands of teams in Esports across hundreds of titles from League of Legends to CS:GO, we usually see the same few teams in the large tournaments and majors. It’s important to know why these teams are consistently here, and how they have been performing.

Esports has seen a lot of investment from around the globe this year, prompting teams to go the extra mile for the grand prize. This may bring out some new teams to compete at the top and we could see this list change in a few months time. For now, here are your top 10 teams in 2023.

    10. Cloud 9

If you’re even remotely invested in the Esports industry, you’ve probably heard of Cloud9. Founded back in 2013, the team quickly made a name in CS:GO with players such as Shroud and n0thing.

Unfortunately, the team has found themselves off the podium in multiple titles but the second half of 2023 may give them a chance to return to the top spot.

    9. Fnatic

Fnatic is one of the oldest organizations in Esports with teams across multiple titles

With their recent 1st place victory in the VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo against Evil Geniuses, the team is riding high and looking for their next challenge.

Some recent roster changes have allowed the team to adapt into the champions we all thought they could be. They will have to defend their crown in the next major and we’ll see if Evil Geniuses will bounce back…

    8. Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses was founded in Victoria, Canada over 20 years ago. Over 2 decades the team has found success across the board in games such as CS:GO, Dota 2, and Valorant.

Their recent loss in the final of the VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo Final was a heavy hit to the organization. However, we expect them to bounce back and find themselves back in the final very soon.

With over 180 titles, only time will tell where EG will get their next one.

    7. Team BDS

Team BDS is a relatively new team on the scene with its launch back in 2019.

Since then the team has really made a name for themselves, particularly in Rocket League and Rainbow 6: Siege. Recently, the team won the Gamers8 tournament in Riyadh and took home the grand prize of $750,000 (Rainbow 6: Siege)!

In 2022, the team won 4 major tournaments across 5 months in Rainbow 6: Siege alone. I recommend you keep an eye on the Team BDS roster as we can expect them to be challenging top teams in 2023 to keep their crown.

    6. Talon Esports

Talon Esports is most commonly known for its incredible partnerships with big brands such as Paris Saint-Germain and KFC. However, this is not the only factor in Talon’s success.

In the Dota 2 Riyadh Major 2023, Talon took home the bronze medal and a whopping $1,700,000. Unfortunately, Talon’s Valorant team has been struggling in the last year with a highest finish of 5th in the VCT 2023: Pacific Last Chance Qualifier.

    5. Team Spirit

Since the organization’s launch back in 2015, Team Spirit has grown into one of the largest Esports organizations in the world. In 2023 alone, Team Spirit has over $5,000,000 in earnings – this is more than any other team across all titles.

Although the majority of these winnings come from their 1st place finish in the Dota 2 Riyadh Major, it is still an impressive feat for any team to reach this figure. It will be interesting to watch how this team develops for the next major and whether they can hold their title against other massive organizations.

    4. FaZe Clan

FaZe Clan is an iconic name in Esports and gaming entertainment. The organization started as a group of YouTubers playing Modern Warfare 2 (the original game, not the most recent re-release). FaZe gained a reputation for “trickshotting” primarily using snipers.

This humble beginning has now grown into a massive organization with a presence in over 10 titles. In CS:GO, FaZe has already won two massive titles with the Intel Grand Slam and the ESL Pro League. If they can continue this dominance, we may see them competing at the top once again.

    3. Vitality

Vitality is dominating across the board right now. With a 1st place finish at the Gamers8 2023 and the BLAST.tv Paris Major, their CS:GO dominance may continue as we move into the later stages of 2023.

The team has also seen some huge wins in Rocket League in 2023 with a win at the World Championship and the Spring Split Major – beating Team BDS both times 4-0 and 4-1 respectively. I have a feeling we are moving into an era of Vitality dominance with few teams stepping up to the plate to challenge them.

    2. G2 Esports

With their launch back in 2013, G2 has firmly planted themselves into the Esports history books with incredible moments through many titles. Whether it’s League of Legends, CS:GO, or Rainbow 6: Siege, it’s likely you’ll find their roster competing at the top.

Back in March, the organization announced its 3rd all-women roster with the addition of “Oya”. This goes to show how G2 is constantly breaking the mold the industry has set – and doing so with style!

    1. Team Liquid

Since the organisation’s birth in 2000, we have seen multiple teams compete at the top level under Team Liquid.

After many years of StarCraft dominance, Liquid announced that the team had curated a CS:GO roster. Not only did this increase their fanbase, but they also went on to sign popular streamer pashaBiceps to increase their viewership.

Even after 20 years of competition, the team is showing an extremely high level of play with a 2nd-place finish at the Dota 2 Riyadh Masters. This puts them 2nd in the highest-earning teams of 2023 (Team Spirit is 1st) with 133 tournaments since the start of the year.

F1: Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton keen to continue season momentum

With Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finishing fourth, Formula 1 left Belgium having witnessed a familiar figure taking the chequered flag.

Max Verstappen delivered his tenth win of the season in dominant fashion, cruising past former championship rival Lewis Hamilton in the process.

The overtake will have brought back memories of their epic on-track battles from 2021.

However, with Hamilton not having taken a win since that season, the question remains will he reach the top step in any of the remaining races this season?

    Mercedes’ Continued Struggles

By their own admission, Mercedes took a wrong direction with their 2023 car design philosophy. This was an evolution of last years troublesome W13.

Results have been more consistent compared to last season. However, the dominance of Red Bull and the rise of midfield teams such as Aston Martin and McLaren has left victories out of the question for the Silver Arrows.

The team arguably boast the most talented driver pairing on the grid in George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Despite this, inability to provide them with a front-running car continues to be a frustration.

Regular upgrades mean the team have frequently fought for podiums. Although, the most recent performance improvements saw the return of the bouncing phenomenon that plagued the team throughout 2022.

Mercedes’ will be hoping their upcoming packages scheduled for after the summer break will eradicate this. The goal will be to provide a solid platform to work from going forward.

    Hamilton still has the pace

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has remained the centre of attention despite his team’s current performance levels.

Regardless of their pace, Lewis has demonstrated throughout the year that he still has the pace to fight at the front should he be given the tools to do so.

Second place finishes in Melbourne and Barcelona were followed up by a stunning pole position in Budapest.

When given the opportunity, Lewis has delivered strong results, perhaps results that proceed the expectations of the team in their current situation.

If Mercedes can provide the 7-time champion with a worthy challenger, Hamilton will certainly be ready to fight when the chance comes.

WiIl Mercedes challenge Red Bull this season?

Although Hamilton has the ability to win, there are doubts surrounding Mercedes’s ability to match Red Bull before 2024.

The Brackley-based outfit have a huge deficit to the reigning champions. More significantly, they are restricted by F1’s cost cap and aerodynamic testing regulations.

As a result, should Mercedes find an upturn in pace, they may be unable to add performance to their car until next season when the restrictions refresh.

For fans dreaming up a battle at the front, the team did manage a victory at the end of the 2022 season when they found a sweet spot in their car’s setup in Brazil.

There is potential of a repeat this year as teams begin to turn attention to the 2024 season.

    Best bet for the win

Max Verstappen, the unanimous leader in the Driver’s Championship, is by some distance the best bet.

The Dutchman will compete in front of a home Red Bull crowd this weekend, looking to win for a fifth time around the Red Bull Ring.

Teammate Sergio Perez, with the same set-up however, continues to push hard.

The Mexican, who failed to score in Monaco and was podium-less in both Spain and Canada, is slightly longer odds with patchy form.

Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, has shown Aston Martin do have winning potential.

The Spaniard’s race craft in Canada proved that with the car’s much-needed upgrades, the Silverstone-based team are close to scoring their first-ever win.

    Sainz safe bet for podium

Mercedes are teasing a return to race-winning form, but is it a false dawn?

As the Brackley manufacturer try to maximise the potential of the W14, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are now consistent podium threats.

Ferrari’s fiery Spaniard, Carlos Sainz, meanwhile, is looking to impress after a fifth-place finish in front of his home crowd in Spain and last time out in Canada.

But the Scuderia driver’s points advantage over Russell, is now just three points in fifth.

Nevertheless, Ferrari are in the frame for third in the Constructor’s Championship.

Charles Leclerc, however, has the odds stacked against him with a 14-point gap to his teammate.

Yet, with Leclerc having secured the only podium finish for the Prancing Horse this term and with a P4 in Montreal, they remain in the mix.

    Ocon to score points

Alpine, so far this season, have demonstrated they are the strongest team in midfield.

With Esteban Ocon scoring a podium in Monaco, the team from Enstone can achieve points with ease.

For the moment, McLaren are their main rivals for fifth place and it is worth noting also Lando Norris scored a podium here back in 2020.

Can the Bristolian emulate the same success this weekend?

When the lights go out Sunday, all will be revealed.
