Arsenal vs Man City | Back 7/2 Trossard to net

With seven games of the Premier League season in the books, October’s international break looms like an unruly parent removing a child’s plaything.

However, before domestic hostilities go into hiatus for a fortnight, Arsenal and Manchester City send us off in explosive style.

Meeting at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Super Sunday is shaping up nicely.

Not only do Liverpool and Brighton line-up in the matinee presentation, the top dogs from last term then meet.

One of the marquee fixtures in world football, Arsenal and City clash at a fascinating avenue.

    Bouncing back

Like last season – for the moment at least – both Arsenal and City head the standings, separated only by Tottenham in second spot on goals scored.

The weekend’s mouth-watering offering is delicately poised.

With just a point between the two sides, both have suffered defeat in the past week.

Whilst Arsenal lost away in midweek, City bounced back, but arrive on the back of league defeat for first time this term.

After Wolves inflicted a shock defeat on the Cityzens at Molineux, Sunday is the Gunners’ turn to respond on their own patch.

Alas, they may have to do so without their star man.

    Saka doubt

Having carried a slight niggle for the past few weeks, Bukayo Saka‘s midweek withdrawal was a sizeable blow for boss Mikel Arteta.

Initial fears appear to have been dampened with the news the Arsenal forward could start on Sunday.

Yet, Saka could be forced into bench role.

    Embed from Getty Images

His absence could see either Gabriel Jesus or Eddie Nketiah shuffled to the right of a front three, with Kai Havertz a potential to start up top.

However, it is the left wing role that could be vital.

With Gabriel Martinelli still out, Leandro Trossard is poised.

    Trossard to shine?

As the clamour grows for the tricky Belgian to be handed a run in the starting XI, the 28-year-old is ready to be unleashed on City.

A late substitute in netting Arsenal’s leveller in the Community Shield back in August, Trossard’s record against the Sunday’s opposition is impressive.

Trossard has now netted three times against City in the past, including twice for former club Brighton.

Indeed, finding the net at the Etihad last October, Trossard was instrumental in the Seagulls’ 3-2 win in May 2021.

Not many players can boast such a record against formidable opposition and his experiences in front of goal may be crucial.

A possible match-up with Kyle Walker will be a fascinating pace battle, one Trossard has already come out on top in.

    Embed from Getty Images

In front of Walker, Rodri will be a huge void to fill this weekend after his sending off last weekend.

Without the Spanish guardian – perhaps the best central midfielder in Europe right now – Arsenal could be in business.

Aside from their season-opener victory at Wembley, the north Londoners have lost all of their last eight league and cup games.

At home, Arsenal are winless against City in the league since 2015. This could be the time to change that particular stat.

Trossard will be central to that and a 7/2 punt with SpreadEx to score anytime.

A brace from Ilkay Gundogan sealed the deal as Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

  • Best Man City players of the 2022-23 season

Best Man City players of the 2022-23 season

Man City claimed their third title in a row at the end of the 2022-23 Premier League season, thanks to their incredible players, who came up with some of the best performances throughout the campaign.

BestofBets takes a look at who were the most important five players who contributed the most to Manchester City’s success and won them the title.

Ratings based on their average match rating out of 10 throughout the season.

Best Man City players of the 2022-23 season

    5. Phil Foden – Average rating 7.13/10:
Phil Foden enjoyed his most consistent season in 2022-23 and scored 11 goals with five assists in 32 Premier League games. Furthermore, he had one of the highest pass completion percentage in the league with 86.1% throughout the campaign. He also came up with some of the most key moments in Manchester City’s title challenge.

    4. Rodri – Average rating 7.26/10
Rodri has been the best deep lying midfielders in the Premier League this season, because of his tendency to block opposition attacks with ease.
He made 36 appearances in the Premier League with a pass completion percentage of 91.3%. Besides this, Rodri’s role in retaining possession is one of the major reasons for City’s domination.

    3. Jack Grealish – Average rating 7.33/10
One of the best wingers in the Premier League, Jack Grealish showcased his worth as he dropped an average of 7.33/10 performance throughout the 38 games. Furthermore, as a matter of fact, with five goals and three assists in the league season, Grealish certainly enjoyed an 87.6% pass competition rate.

    2. Erling Haaland – Average rating 7.54/10
Surprised to not see him top of this list?
Unless you think goalscoring isn’t the only important factor in judging a striker, Erling Haaland is the best striker in the world at the moment. He broke all goalscoring records in the 2022-23 campaign, in what was his debut season. As a result, with an average rating of 7.54/10, he is certainly going to get dangerously better next season!

    1. Kevin De Bruyne – Average rating 7.58/10
Pep Guardiola managed Kevin De Bruyne’s game time shrewdly, despite him being one of the major reasons for Haaland’s incredible goal tally. Basically, Guardiola did this because the Belgian gained enough rest to perform to the best of his capabilities.
Although, De Bruyne provided 16 assists throughout the campaign and also scored seven goals, all of which were absolute screamers!

  • Players who returned to haunt their former clubs

Players who returned to haunt their former clubs

As fans, we get attached to every player at the club we support and when that favourite player of ours leaves the club, a part of us leaves with them, but what happens when that same player plays for another club to defeat our club? It’s crushing! Today, BestofBets take a look at some top players who returned back with rival teams to haunt their former clubs, as they scored and led their teams to famous wins!

Players who returned to haunt their former clubs

    1. Eric Cantona:
After leading Leeds United to a Premier League title in 1992, Eric Cantona infamously made a move to Manchester United to create a dynasty in English football.
On his first return back to Elland Road for with his new team, Cantona was fined £1,000 by the FA for spitting at home fans.
In 1996, Cantona scored in the final minutes to help Manchester United claim a 4-0 win over Leeds with the Frenchman ending up celebrating right in front of Leeds’ Kop.
    2. Denis Law:
Part of the iconic Holy Trinity at Manchester United alongside George Best and Bobby Charlton, an ageing Denis Law joined Manchester City towards the end of his career in 1973, but he did make a historical contribution to the Blues’ history, scoring one of his most famous goals in his career. That goal was one of the reasons for Manchester United’s relegation that season.
    3. Frank Lampard:
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard left the club for a stint in the MLS before returning back to the Premier League with Manchester City on a loan in 2014.
Lampard bagged a late equaliser for City when Chelsea visited the Etihad in 2014.
    4. Andrea Pirlo:
One of the greatest midfielders of all time, Andrea Pirlo started out at Inter Milan, but wasn’t seemed quality enough before moving to AC Milan. There, he created history and rose to the level of the best midfielder in world football.
After a decade in Milan, he joined Juventus as a free agent and took his game to the next level. Pirlo made both Inter and AC Milan look foolish when he led Juventus to four successive Serie A titles.
    5. Emmanuel Adebayor:
Remember that incident when Emmanuel Adebayor scored for Manchester City against his former team Arsenal and ran the full length of the Etihad Stadium pitch to celebrate by sliding on his knees in front of the Gunners’ fans?
Arsenal fans hate him to this day. Enough said!
    6. Cesc Fabregas:
When Arsenal rejected the chance to re-sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, Jose Mourinho brought him to Chelsea and he helped the Blues win the league title, which included provided a match-winning assist for Diego Costa in his first game against Arsene Wenger’s men.
    7. Cristiano Ronaldo:
Manchester United let go of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2009 and throughout his spell at Los Blancos, he got the chance to play against his former club in five competitive games. He scored in both legs as Real Madrid knocked the Red Devils out of the Champions League round of 16 in 2012-13.
    8. Robin van Persie:
Dutch striker Robin van Persie became “villain number 1” at Arsenal when he decided to join Manchester United as he wanted to win a Premier League title.
Van Persie scored twice against Arsenal in his first season at Old Trafford, but he didn’t go on to celebrate any of those two goals.
However, Arsenal fans continued to boo him and the next time he arrived at the Emirates and scored, Van Persie intentionally celebrated in front of the Gunners fans.
The Dutchman, eventually had the last laugh as he went on to win the Premier League.

Who can Manchester City face in the Champions League quarter-final?

Manchester City came up with an utterly dominating performance in the second leg of their round of 16 clash against RB Leipzig, beating the German side 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, hence qualifying for the quarter-final.

You can have a look at our player ratings for this game here.

City are in the hunt for their first ever Champions League crown and have faced multiple misfortunes in the recent past.

Chelsea got the better of them in the 2021 final before Real Madrid broke their hearts in an incredible comeback in last season’s semi-final.

However, Pep Guardiola’s men look determined as ever that this season could be the one in which they achieve club football’s ultimate glory.

Teams Manchester City could face in the quarter-final of the Champions League 2022-23

City are Best of Bets‘ favourite to go on and win the Champions League this season, provided they avoid a couple of teams in their run-in to the final.

Real Madrid are a different beast altogether in the Champions League as compared to their La Liga form and that is one team City have to avoid if Los Blancos get past Liverpool in the second leg.

Chelsea is a dark horse here and having defeated City once in the final of this tournament before, City should be wary of their threat.

Then there’s Bayern Munich, virtually the most complete team in the Champions League this season.

Finally come the Italian sides, who have been decent this season, however, City would feel good to draw against clubs like Inter and Napoli despite the dangers they possess.

A list of teams Manchester City could face in the quarter-final

    • Chelsea
    • Benfica
    • Milan
    • Bayern Munich
    • Inter
    • Napoli*
    • Real Madrid*

    * mark indicates the second legs are pending at the time of writing, but both Napoli and Real Madrid have healthy leads over Frankfurt and Liverpool respectively.
