UEFA Champions League Final_ Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid

The Tip

Wembley plays host to the UEFA Champions League Final this year which sees Underdogs of the tournament Borussia Dortmund take on the Champions League record holders Real Madrid. I predict Dortmund will play similarly to how they managed to defeat PSG by playing on the counter attack that’s why I can see another impressive Dortmund display keeping Real Madrid relatively quiet, that’s why I’m backing Under 2.5 Match Goals at 2.10.

Dortmund’s Champions League Journey… So Far

Borussia Dortmund have surprised many football fans by reaching the UEFA Champions League Final. In the quarter-finals, Dortmund showed their attacking capabilities scoring five goals on aggregate against a defensively sound Atletico Madrid. They also displayed two incredibly strong performances against PSG ‘s Kylian Mbappe and co in the semi-final. Over two legs, PSG created 4.92 expected goals however Borussia Dortmund managed to keep two clean sheets winning both games a goal to nil.

Madrid’s Route to the Final

Real Madrid are the most successful club in Champions League history and it’s easy to see why. Not many are surprised they constantly reach the latter stages of this famous competition, especially with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm. The 14-time champions have seen entertaining games throughout the knockout stages. They have seen 18 goals in all six knockout games including a 3-3 thriller against Man City at El Bernabau. In the second leg, Real Madrid defended successfully containing Pep Guardiola’s side to a penalty shootout where they progressed. Los Blancos are unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League all season and I can’t see them losing this game with their experience on and off the pitch.

Recent Champions League Finals

The last four UEFA Champions League finals have seen just a single goal, in fact the last five finals have seen under 2.5 match goals. A surprising statistic when before, the last eight finals had seen both teams scoring. However with so much at stake I can see the trend being followed again in this year’s UEFA Champions League Final. In what should be a tight game, I can see Real Madrid nicking a winner against a resilient Dortmund side and lifting the club’s 15th Champions League trophy.
