Pep Guardiola’s Man City begin their Champions League campaign on Wednesday, as they welcome Italian Champions Inter Milan to the Etihad Stadium.
It will come as little surprise to anybody that City have began the 2024/25 campaign in their expected ruthless nature. They have won all four of their league games, scoring 11 goals. Sitting top of the table, with a 100% record – they now turn their attention to Europe.
The Cityzens are unbeaten in 23 Champions League games, only losing on penalties to Real Madrid last season to end their UCL campaign. In fact, Man City have won 16, drawn two and lost none of their last 18 UCL home games – with their last European defeat on home soil coming against Chelsea in 2021.
City are a machine and with Erling Haaland playing the way he is at the minute, I don’t see Inter Milan causing an upset here. However, the English side do have a very important league game following this fixture on Sunday versus Arsenal. I can see Pep Guardiola playing a slightly more controlled game here – looking to avoid injuries and fatigue.
Inter’s UCL games traditionally aren’t packed with goals. In fact, 10 of their last 11 UCL games have seen under 3.5 goals land.
