Premier League | Liverpool vs Chelsea

Chelsea yellow cards

Cold Palmer

Liverpool clash with Chelsea in the weekend’s Premier League blockbuster, the first game for the sides after the international break. Both teams come into this one in good form so expect an entertaining match. Speaking of form, one player who has continued to shine is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who picked up the Premier League Player of The Month Award for September. He has six goals and five assists after just seven league games which are fantastic returns in this early stage of the season.

Palmer is definitely not afraid to shoot, with a shot on target in every game this season except in one. He was at his very best against Brighton becoming the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half. We’re tipping Cole Palmer to have 1+ shot on target and both teams to receive a card at great value of 1.87.

Chelsea’s Disciplinary Record

Referees have produced a large number of cards for Chelsea players this season already. They were even involved in the game which recorded the highest number of cards ever in the Premier League. This match was when Anthony Taylor had shown 15 yellow cards in Chelsea’s 1-0 win away to Bournemouth. They have been punished with 27 yellow cards so far this season, on average 3.8 cards per game. Defenders, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana both lead with five yellows each.

I think Chelsea will be on the back foot against Liverpool as they travel to the current league leaders who are in fine form. Liverpool love to play direct with the forward options they possess, but also like to keep the ball in spells which will frustrate the Chelsea players. Both teams have picked up a yellow card in the last five head to head Premier League meetings.

League Leaders

Liverpool narrowly lead the charge at the top of the table with 18 points, Manchester City and Arsenal are behind them by just one point. Liverpool have only lost one game this season which was a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, that was the only goal they’ve conceded so far.

Chelsea travel to Anfield unbeaten in six league games, their last defeat came on the opening day against reigning champions, Manchester City. They sit 4th place, four points behind Liverpool. They have picked up a couple of draws along the way but have shown much improvement since last season, thanks to the appointment of Head Coach, Enzo Maresca. I still think Liverpool will be able to carve Chelsea apart on more than one occasion and defensively will remain solid to get the three points.
