UEFA Nations League | Republic of Ireland vs England

A new start for England

Lee Carsley takes over the reigns as England boss this evening, after Gareth Southgate departed when losing to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

His first test will be in the Nations League against the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium. Carsley is interim manager for the time being whilst The FA source a permanent manager for the role.

My tip for this game is England to win to nil at 2.20.

New era

For the second time in a row, England fell at the final hurdle at the Euros this past summer. There were rumours Gareth Southgate was leaving his position regardless of tournament success however after defeat to Spain, that all but sealed his fate. England’s wait for an international trophy continues.

England’s future is in good hands with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka leading an exciting attack for years to come. The Three Lions will have their sights on 026 World Cup glory in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Carsley may not be in charge in two years’ time but he will however, have a hand in getting his charges there.

I expect there to be a new energy to this England side and coming up against an improving but still porous Republic of Ireland side, this should be a routine victory for the Three Lions. The home side do have a threat in Ipswich man Sammie Szmodics, however, I would be surprised if he can infiltrate the English defence.
