Manchester United start life without Erik Ten Hag against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
After the Dutchman was sacked following their 2-1 loss to West Ham – leaving the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League – the new United era begins with the visit of the Foxes to Old Trafford in the League Cup.
The hosts will be looking for a fresh start, but unfortunately for United fans, at this moment in time, it feels like any club would fancy their chances against this current side.
We are backing Both Teams To Score at 1.80.
United have had one of their worst starts to a Premier League season so far and sit only two points above Leicester in the Premier League table, having only scored eight goals. Whilst Leicester have had no issue in front of goal, they have struggled defensively. However, this backs up our tip as they have seen Both Teams To Score land in all but one of their league games this season.
Ironically, in Man Utd’s first game of the League Cup campaign, they thrashed Barnsley 7-0 at home, scoring two fewer than in their nine league games. The EFL Cup is a great chance for United to forget about their league woes and they should be relaxed and play with more freedom than in the past few weeks where every game felt like it could cost their boss’ job.
After back-to-back wins, Steve Cooper lost against his former employers Nottingham Forest 3-1 and will look to bounce back with a positive performance at Old Trafford. Those two wins will slightly ease the pressure of relegation meaning they can give the tournament more attention and aim for a win or to take the game to penalties. In the Foxes’ last League Cup match, they scraped past Walsall in a penalty shootout.
At 1.80 odds, that signals value for both teams to find the back of the net in what should be an open game.
