Euro 2024 | Serbia vs England

Last Chance For Gareth Southgate

Serbia v England will kick off the Three Lions’ tournament. Southgate has led England to the best tournament finishes in recent history. Before the 2020 Euros, England had not reached an international tournament final since 1966. However, the England boss still receives plenty of criticism for the way the side play when in the latter stages of competitions. He has said that the Euros will likely be his last tournament as England manager, will he end his tenure with a trophy or disappointment?

I can see an uncomfortable game for England here, so I’m tipping Both Teams to Score at 1.90.

Serbian Threat

Many English players will be familiar with former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic who is a big presence upfront. The striker who plays his football for Al Hilal led the team to the title with his 28 league goals and will be relishing the chance to cause an inexperienced England defence a lot of problems. Serbia also boast great technical players in Dusan Tadic and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic who will look to get a point or even three

England Defensive Worries

Serbia v England should be an entertaining game when you look at the quality of England’s attack. However with defensive injuries to Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, Southgate has been forced to call in a few inexperienced players. Marc Guehi is likely to start making his international tournament debut. England’s shock defeat to Iceland last week has bought up questions about the defence who has only kept one clean sheet in the last five games.
