Coventry City face Oxford United in the second round of the EFL Cup tonight, with both Championship teams looking for a good cup run. Coventry beat Bristol City 1-0 in the first round whilst Oxford beat League One side Peterborough 2-0 to progress.
The Sky Blues have had a mixed start to the season, with strong feelings around pre-season this could be another top six season on the cards. They’ve won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three games. Meanwhile, Oxford marked their return to the Championship with a 2-0 win versus Norwich on opening day. They have however, lost their other two since.
Both sides look capable of scoring goals. Coventry have scored in five goals in their opening four games, with Oxford scoring seven goals in their opening four games.
These two sides met only 11 days ago, when Coventry were 3-2 victors in a five-goal thriller. Coventry registered a huge 27 shots, with 12 shots on target (2.95 xG).
There will likely be some changes to both sides’ XI, sandwiched in-between weekend league commitments – but I think the open style of both sides will remain and we could be in for some goals yet again.
