What a game we have on Wednesday night. Aston Villa host German giants Bayern Munich in Villa’s first home Champions League game since their return to the competition. Both sides have started their domestic leagues strongly and I expect this clash to bring the best out of each other.
I’m expecting goals here so I’m backing over 3.0 Asian Goal Line at 1.700.
Villa Park Excitement
The hosts will be relishing the chance to prove themselves against one of the most famous and well known clubs in world football. This will be Unai Emery’s first big competitive test against European opposition and they know how difficult it will be despite their home advantage. The Villans currently sit fifth in the Premier League despite conceding in every game this season. I don’t think you’ll hear a Villa fan expect their first clean sheet of the 24/25 campaign with Bayern’s attack.
Villa may have a poor defensive record so far, however they are making up for it in front of goal with Ollie Watkins picking up where he left off last season. The England striker impressed off the bench at the Euros but started this campaign slowly missing some big chances in uncharacteristic fashion. He has since scored in his last three league games.
Aston Villa have had at least three goals in all but one competitive game this season. Up against Bayern, I can see an open end to end game as Villa won’t be playing on the counter against this relentless German side.
Kompany & Co
Vincent Kompany took charge of Bayern Munich in the summer and has had a successful start. After the shock of failing to win the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season, Die Roten changed manager and it’s seems to be paying off. The German side have been lethal in front of goal, putting nine past Dinamo Zagreb in Matchday 1, whilst hitting five and six goals before and after that match in the Bundesliga.
Aston Villa know that they will need a miracle to keep Bayern at bay, that’s why I’m expecting attacking football from both sides which should lead to goals… and lots of them. I’m expecting a refund here at the minimum, this is not one to miss!
