Austria have impressed many in their first two games of the tournament. They put up a good fight against France despite falling to a 1-0 defeat. Against Poland they came out 3-1 winners registering 15 shots and an xG of 1.92. Ralph Rangnick’s high press, urgency and energy has been keen on the eye.
This is a huge game for both. France are expected to take top spot of Group D – they face a poor Poland side on the final game. Netherlands are currently top of the group on goal difference, with Austria currently in third place on 3 points, 1 behind tonight’s opponents.
Both sides hold great attacking threat, which sets this one up nicely to be an attacking, open game. Especially when you look at what’s on the line for both sides. The likes of Simons, Depay and Gakpo could threaten the Austrian defence – especially if the Austrians are more open. Austria have looked good going forward so far, the likes of Sabitzer and Baumgartner have both had impressive tournaments so far. The Austrians pose a threat and should have confidence in scoring here vs the Dutch.
