Spurs return to the Europa League after a season away from Europe this evening, as they face Azerbaijani side Qarabag at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Last season, Qarabag had their best Europa League campaign to date where they were knocked out in the round of 16 by a Bayer Leverkusen late show. In their ten matches, they scored a respectable 17 goals. Their attacking style of play sways me towards Both Teams to Score in the Match at 1.95.
Qarabag’s 2023/24 Europa League Season
Qarabag’s last Europa League campaign saw them fight till the very end, knocked out in the last minute of the last 16 by the dominant and eventual beaten finalists, Bayern Leverkusen. In both legs, Qarabag managed to score four goals which shows they aren’t afraid of the big teams in Europe.
They played matches in their Europa League campaign last season, in which seven of those games ended with both teams getting on the score sheet.
Gurban Gurbanov’s men’s recent league form has been very good, winning their last three games. In their only away game this league campaign they managed to score three goals. They should have enough to grab a goal in north London.
Winning Start For Spurs?
Tottenham look to start their own campaign with a win at home. They currently sit tenth in the Premier League table after five games, three of those matches both teams scored.
The Lilywhites have also been vulnerable from dead balls this calendar year with a remarkable 18 set-piece goals conceded, 13 coming from corners – the second highest in the Premier League.
Qarabag will be quietly confident they can convert chances from corners. All the games that Spurs have been involved in so far this season have ended with over 10 corners due to the way they play which causes games to be more open.
Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, is expected to rest some of his squad with fringe players being given an opportunity. The only players sidelined by injury are Richarlison and summer signing, Wilson Odobert.
